Hey everybody! Ricky Here!
Let me share with you guys my AQ experience.
(Since our dear Clement mention what happen i shall not repeat)
So let me start from the 2nd Check point of leg one, Fort Canning Park.
As GLM mentioned 'Fort Canning was really messy and complicated, having to navigate an additional map of the park to clear 4 mini checkpoints there. The park has many stairs which really drained our team of energy.' but we took this opportunity to catch up with the teams who started the race 'CHIONGING'
by jogging consistently, we manage to clear this checkpoint rather smoothly..
We continued to Jog(non-stop), upon arriving the Singapore Flyer we get to Jog on the F1 Race Track! Isnt it cool?! But we took a short break by Brisk walking, as we were a little exhausted. And i happen to find 4 EZ link cards with $20, when i looked at it i wanted to leave it there but i still took it up, ran to the 'mam'(madam) further upfront(thus kinda waste my energy) and passed it to her..
We got to kallang(2nd Leg) and split in to two's to take kayaking and soccer.
We were at the top 40 teams to arrive for Kayaking, KokYong and i left there as soon as we plotted the next checkpoint. Kokyong, not wanting to waste Boris and Boon Hwee's time we ran(I felt really tired at this point) not wanting to let KY down i ran with him. when we got to the place we hesitated as we couldn't find the check point! though alot of the teams are travelling in the direction we are suppose to head, we check the map again and again, and kept on orientating. I didnt want to waste anymore time, we blindly followed and to my surprise they were right! Later on i realised that the checkpoint we were finding so hard did not exist, well it does exist AS A GUIDE, its a checkpoint with no officers that why..
After completing the soccer we walk/jogged back, when we did, Boon Hwee and Boris were no where to be found! I was anxious, 'Could they have left without us?!!' I thought a loud, after searching for them for 20mins and checking with the officers(who wasnt much of a help!) i sat down and was dismayed.
After 45mins, Boon Hwee's figure appeared , with thanksgiving in my heart i waved and yelled at him to hurry up! But boris was still lacking behind(way behind), when he got to where we were he mention he had a sore on his ankle, but i kept rushing him(which is kinda wrong) and after apply the muscle cream, we carried on running. Boris kept apologizing, but as a leader i cannot encourage the 'Blaming Game' so i told him it was not his fault.
What happen was that he 'forgot' how to kayak! It was partly my fault too, i did not look at the checkpoints ahead before making the decision of whose going to kayak and whose going to run..
Nevertheless we got to the archery checkpoint, thinking that we can take this opportunity to make up for our 'loss'.. But we Re-Qued 5 times..wasting a total of 3and a half hours! So we dropped all the way to the 80th position(+ -)
I was VERY VERY VERY Depressed.. My heart sank, all the way to the bottom..i felt like crying but i remember that we must still finish the race(Captain and officer Wen Wei mentioned) we packed our bag way ahead of the other teams who looked more depressed, and got our CUT OFF stamp and we ran to the Bike checkpoint, there the teams that was behind caught up, but we finished plotting :)
KY led us in this leg, we never stop for this leg as we were far behind time.
My leg muscle was hurting but i cant hold my team back so I persevered.
There were a number of stops were we were required to lift our (somewhat) Heavy bikes up the overhead bridge, and I have a larger load, Carrying BORIS's bike.
I could even taste salt(Literally) out of my sweat as we finish our bike Journey, Meng huat and Daniel was in front of us at the Bike drop off point(It was some what of an encouragement). Daniel followed us and he helped to push the restless boon hwee, you could tell from his face that he was totally exhausted, he wanted to call it quits, he even yelled 'Cannot liao lah' in Chinese and everyone was feeling tired and down..
Therefore with little energy we walked to Springfield Sec(daniel found another EZ link card) and then ran in with Daniel with every little energy we have left..
All in all, i am glad that we, as a team manage to complete this race with much teamwork.. And that is what we should want to achieve out of this Adventurous Race, teamwork and perseverance. Though the positioning is important, staying together completing the race as a team, is more valuable than that of our positioning.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank all who spent their time/effort/money for this AQ training and preparations.
Ricky, Signing OFF!
