Yesterday - Trial Hike And Officer Dennis' Birthday Dinner

We had our trial hike yesterday, in preparation for next week's actual hike of about 18 km.

The day started off cloudy and gloomy, with signs of imminent rain. The trial hike was in the Taman Jurong area. After singalong and devotion, the Boys plotted the MGRs, and started off.

I was with Meng Huat, following the group led by Stanley. Chun Xiong, Aravin, Boris and Odwin were in the group. Our first check-point was the Cisco Recall building across the road from Lakeside Primary School. When we reached there, it started to drizzle, and threatened to turn into a real thunderstorm. Wenwei called me on my handphone a few times, giving instructions on what to do.

The first was to make sure we stay under shelter. Next, we should continue the hike and start heading back to church at 12 noon, whether or not we complete all the check-points.

It turned out to be real thunderstorm. There was no way we could have continued. The last instruction was Wenwei was to start heading back to church, and we would continue with more theory lessons. We walked under shelter until Samuel's block across the church, and shared 2 umbrellas in 2 groups to head back to church.

Irony was, the rain stopped a little while after we all reached church. You will see all the wet umbrellas, shoes and socks in the pictures below. And pictures of some people in slumberland (from studying, not from the trial hike).

At night, a group of 23 of us went to this hotel along Beach Road (can't remember the name) for Dennis' birthday dinner. His birthday is actually on 12 June, but since next Saturday is the actual hike, he decided to have the dinner last night. By the way, it's his 21st birthday this year.

Besides the 23 of us (24 actually, but Guan Long fell sick and couldn't join us), Dennis' whole clan (or most of them) were there too. It was a good time of fellowship. Nothing much to write about it. Good food. And I amazed at the closeness of Dennis' clan. Everybody noticed that Meng Soon was unusually quiet last night. Turned out that he was not well last night.

We bought Dennis a voice recorder, so that he can record the lectures in NUS. But this morning, he asked me why we bought it for him. Think he is too embarrassed to use it during lectures.

Oh yes, it was also Dennis' parents' wedding anniversay yesterday.

Let the pictures tell the story.

Who can spot the error in this banner? It has been hanging in the multi-purpose hall for a long long time. But yesterday was the first time I noticed the error.
