BB CITIZENSHIP BADGE

The Citizenship badge, part of the badge work in the BB Seniors Programme, is conceptualised to encourage Boys to explore global issues and their implications on the world.

It consists of 3 stages - Stage 1, 2 and 3. Through this badge work, Boys will be exposed to pertinent global issues such as Literacy, Poverty, Health and Food Shortage. With guidance and close supervision, they will embark on a journey to explore these issues and initiate ventures to make a social change.

Boys are required to participate and complete an online module provided by the Brigade Office in order to complete stage 2 and 3.

Stage 1

Awarded to Boys who have attended regularly a course of instruction in one of the following modules on the understanding of global issues:

  1. Literacy
  2. Poverty
  3. Health
  4. Hunger

Stage 2

Awarded to Boys who hold the Stage 1 and have participated in a course of instruction on social entrepreneurship; appreciation of individuals and non-profit organisations that address the global issues identified in Stage 1.

A social entrepreneur is someone who recognises a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organise, create, and manage a venture to make social change.* An example of an individual who changed the world through his own effort and solution is John Wood, founder of Room to Read. Examples of non-profit organisations include Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, World Wildlife Fund and Food for the Poor (US).

Boys are required to participate and complete the Stage 2 online module provided by the Brigade Office in order to complete this stage.

Stage 3

Awarded to Boys who hold the Stage 2 and formulate their own solutions and explore service learning opportunities to any of the global issues in Stage 1. Practical applications must be demonstrated for this Stage 3 award.

Boys are required to participate and complete the Stage 3 online module provided by the Brigade Office in order to complete this stage.
