Happy BB Day!

On 12 January 1930, James Milner Fraser (better known as J M Fraser) founded the 1st Boys' Brigade Company in Singapore at Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. Thus, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Boys' Brigade in Singapore today.

It began with a simple parade in Shuqun Secondary School. The Boys assembled at 6.45am and practiced their drill before presenting themselves to the school.

After the national anthem and pledge taking, Mr Adolphus Tan, our school principal, read the BB Day message for all of us. He encouraged the Secondary One Boys to join the Boys' Brigade so that they may grow up to be, and I quote him, 'men of character'.

Following that, we had a recruitment campaign at Shuqun Primary School. We didn't take any pictures because we were too busy talking to the new Boys. We thank God for the 24 Primary 3 Boys who indicated that they are interested to try out the BB.

In the evening, President S R Nathan hosted a party at Padang to appreciate the hard work of the officers in the BB. Chaplain Anthony, Captain Chak Mun, officers Wen Wei, Yi Feng and myself were there to represent our company.

The old man in wheelchair is Mr S P Chua. Taking over J M Fraser, he was the second captain of the first BB company. That means that he has been in the BB for 70++ years?! Wow.

Finally, congratulations to the Boys who collected their O level results yesterday. We're so proud of, and happy for you guys.

Happy BB Day everyone! See you on Friday for CCA Fair.
