Officers/Primers Retreat

Today was Vesak Day public holiday. The officers and primers had a retreat at the Parc Vista function room. Jimmy Ho, the second son of our first captain, helped to book the function room for us. 14 of us attended the retreat, including Chaplain Anthony. Daniel Chong came along to study in the air-conditioned function room.

We met at the bus stop outside the Parc Vista side gate opposite the Lakeside MRT station, and walked to Parc Vista. The function room was cold, but the air-conditioner became less cold later on. The atmosphere was cozy and nice – a good setting for a retreat.

We started the retreat with Chaplain Anthony encouraging us not to just live our lives, but to walk with God. After his opening prayer, MDM shared a short devotion, reminding us to grow in Christian character and values, even as we seek to grow in our Christian faith. We then had a workshop on preparing devotions, led by Mr Chin. There were discussion and sharing sessions by the groups. We learnt that the content and delivery of the devotion are both equally important. Before the close of the workshop, we watched the Susan Boyle video clip – her performance of the song “I Dreamed A Dream” before the 3 judges of the talent show “Britain’s Got Talent”. We learnt about walking the talk, relevance of the devotion, and the need to make sure that our devotions surpass the expectation of the Boys.

After the workshop, we had a light lunch of sandwiches. We then watched “Eagle Eye”. Unfortunately, the speakers didn’t work properly. Thank God for subtitles. Some of us played pool in the next room, and others had a quick swim. We left a little after 5, for dinner at the Lee Hwa restaurant at Jurong Park. Dennis and Zhen Hui couldn’t join in. Leon came and joined us at the restaurant. It was a good dinner, followed by officer Teck Chai’s ice cream treat at the Taman Jurong MacDonald’s. That ended the day’s programme.

Here are some pictures taken during the retreat. Oh yes, today is Lek Wei’s and Victor’s birthdays. Happy birthday, guys!
