The Boys arrived in school at 6.45am to size up into a drill squad.
We were briefed by Officer Leon about the proceedings of the parade.
Knowing that 'Keluar-BARIS' is the only drill movement our classmates would notice, we practised it over and over again.
At 7.15am, we were formed up and ready for the morning assembly.
Our primers came to show their support too.
This is a picture of Shuqun assembling.
After the National Anthem and Pledge Taking, our Principal, Mr Adolphus Tan, read the BB Day message to the school.
HONORARY BRIGADE PRESIDENT
THE BOYS’ BRIGADE IN SINGAPORE
1 As we enter a new year, we face a time of economic uncertainty. While some of us may not have fully appreciated its effects, others may already know of a relative or family friend who may have lost his job. Perhaps you know of someone amongst you whose family is facing financial challenges. It is at such times that our character is tested and our true nature is revealed.
2 That is why much of the BB Programme is coupled with mentoring by your Officers and focused on developing character. A formal life skills curriculum was also developed and introduced for your benefit to teach you how to handle stress and peer pressure. Remember the values that have been taught to you. Sometimes in hardship and need, we may be tempted to engage in less than honorable acts to profit ourselves or to enter into shady activity with the promise of quick and easy profit. I urge you never to compromise your integrity and character. For it has been said, “Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.” Should you be concerned with your involvement with The Boys’ Brigade, do not hesitate to approach your BB Officers or teachers, whom I am sure, will do what they can to help and advise you.
3 2009 is also an appropriate time to extend a helping hand to others. The Boys’ Brigade organises community service projects such as our BB CARES Weekend and the BB Sharity Gift Box. With the financial crunch, it may appear at first reasonable to cut back on programmes involving the less fortunate in order to reduce costs but it is precisely in such times that we must continue to help those in need. Our Boys and Officers do know that the Brigade intends to continue our efforts this year for the well-being of our community. I encourage all of you to continue participation in this regard wholeheartedly as I believe that you too will benefit and mature in experience.
4 2009 also holds many exciting programmes for you. I know that the popular and much anticipated BB Adventure Quest is coming around the corner in March. This adventure race, introduced in 2002, was designed to stretch your limits and develop in you perseverance and tenacity. Most of all, it is meant for you to enjoy with your friends in the BB. As this is the beginning of the year and students are choosing their CCAs, I do urge BB members to encourage boys to join the BB in order that they too will be able to enjoy the exciting programmes lined up by your Officers.
5 I must thank our BB volunteers and teachers for the time they have devoted to the Boys by guiding, coaching and mentoring them. By your precious contribution, you groom, not just the next generation of leaders for the Brigade, but also for our community and Singapore. While your work may sometimes be tiring, I encourage you to press on for nothing yields a more meaningful reward than to know that lives are changed because of the time you have invested in young lives. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank, parents, old Boys, Principals and staff of the various schools for their strong support, enabling the BB to continue the work
6 Let us stand sure and steadfast as we weather these times. I am certain the BB will prevail. Have a blessed BB Day.
Following that, Ming Huan, Jun Rong, Mun Kwong and I went to Shuqun Primary School to meet Mdm Shirley. We put up a BB Stall in the canteen to attract new recruits.
Our P6 Boys were excused from their lessons to help run the stall too.
Here they come! Our potential P3 recruits!
Well, some of us took breaks while waiting for the P4s to arrive too.
These are our graduating Boys this year. Thank you for coming! :)
