Planning Retreat 2008

We had our Planning Retreat on Saturday 6 Dec 2008, during which we reviewed the programmes we had in 2008, and planned the programmes for 2009.

The day started off with some officers and Chaplain Anthony meeting and sharing about our commitment. Unfortunately, many officers did not turn up. During the sharing, we were reminded that officers (and primers) form the beams and pillars, and give strength to the BB structure (the house). However, for the house to continue standing strong in the face of challenges and difficulties, we need to anchor ourselves on the solid Rock, our Great Captain Jesus Christ. The programmes are only tools to help us train and build up the Boys, and advance Christ’s Kingdom among them. But the devotions and spiritual nurturing is what anchors us in Christ.

The reviews in the morning, conducted by officers Wen Wei and Zhenhui, went smoothly. There were many suggestions on how we can better organize programmes in 2009, learning from the lessons in 2008. In the afternoon, captain led us in planning 2009’s programmes. Looks like it’s going to be another exciting and busy year ahead for everybody. Officer Dennis patiently sat there and typed out the programmes and distribution of duties for us.

After the reviews and planning, I shared a devotion based on Jacob wrestling with God, before God could change him and used him to restore His kingdom. We were reminded that the BB is part of God’s plan to restore His kingdom, as the object of the BB is “the advancement of Christ’s kingdom”. We were encouraged to cling on tightly to God when we face struggles in our lives, so that He can bless us and use us in His great plan to restore His kingdom.

Following the devotion, we watched the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”.

It was interesting to be reminded that the devil will not confront us baring his two horns and holding his “spear”, because we will know what to do to fight him. The devil disguises himself in various forms to get close to us and tempt us. In the movie, the devil wore Prada, as it was in the fashion world. Like the actress Anne Hathaway, we must know our principles, and hold on to them. If we are not careful, we get sucked into the world and lose ourselves, and our relationship with God, in the process. Meryl Streep was great as “the devil” who wore Prada.

The dinner at Lotus Garden Restaurant was fun and filling. It was the usual food, but it was good to relax after a long day, and fill ourselves. Three Junior Boys joined us. Some Sec 1 Boys joined us too.

Thank God for the cool weather yesterday.
