Founder's Day 2008

We celebrated this year's Founder's Day today, starting with muster parade, followed by singalong led by Corporal Ricky, and devotion by officer Gary. Officer Gary reminded us to seek for things more important than ranks and badges - character.

This was followed by awards presentation and promotions. The Boys were understandably excited to receive more awards, more badges to put on display, for their hard work throughout the year. Just before the promotions were announced, Mr Chin reminded us about choices, that we all have to choose what we want, and to put our hearts where it is important. This round, Pte Boon Hwee was promoted to Lance-corporal, and Corporals Clement and Ricky were promoted to Sergeants.

After a round of photo taking (squads followed by company), we had the inter-squad capstan ball competition. Squad Solomon came out tops. But what was more interesting were the matches between the Junior Boys and the Seniors.

After the games, we all bundled into the nice cool air-conditioned multi-purpose hall to watch "Over The Hedge" - a surprisingly entertaining animation movie. There were lessons to learn too. About leadership - and the importance of leading others to do the right things, about the important of integrity. But what struck me was the lesson at the end - about the important of having a group of friends who stick with us through thick and thin - like family. Nice.

Then came the birthay celebration for the month of October - Sergeant Clement and Corporal Stanley. There was the usual happy birthday song.

Finally, dinner. Unfortunately, the portion was not enough, obviously, for the hungry bunch after the games. The fried rice ran out quickly, so we all stuffed ourselves with the other dishes.

After vesper and dismissal, we all went home. To rest, and to get ready for tomorrow. Thank God for the good weather today - after almost one week of rain and overcast skies.

Done! Here are more pictures for your viewing pleasure.
