Season For Enlistments

First it was Gary, who enlisted in July. He's been in NS for about 2 months now, and will be having his Passing Out Parade soon.

Jun Chong will be enlisting on 10 Sep, so he can't join us in the Reunion. He will be a diver in his NS. Jun Chong was with Squad Corinthians throughout his time in 28th. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and then stayed on as a Primer.

Meng Soon will be enlisting on 22 Sep, so he will be at the Reunion. He's in pesk E, so it will be a relatively easy time in NS for him.

This evening, a group of us, including Boon Hwee, gave Jun Chong and Meng Soon a farewell at the Lotus Restaurant (next to the former Taman Jurong Swimming Pool, again!). It was a good dinner, and a good time catching up with Jun Chong again.

Let's continue to pray for Jun Chong and Meng Soon, and Gary too, that God will keep them safe throughout their NS stint.

Character Quest 2008

Are you guessing what is this?

No idea?

It's a shield for the upcoming Character Quest 2008.

Our Boys designed and coloured the shield last Sunday during our BB cell time.

Clement, Ricky, Samuel, Marcus and Orlando have been selected to represent our company for Character Quest 2008. This national competition will be held at Anglican High School on 6 September 2008. All the best to our team! :)

The General Secretary attended the 40th anniversary celebrations of the 1st Sibu Company, The Boys’ Brigade on Saturday 23 August 2008. At the dinner attended by more than 1,100 members and friends, he delivered a short address. The dinner was held in Sibu, Sarawak. He would like to thank Mr Joseph Tin, Captain of the 1st Sibu Company---the largest company in the world with 620 members---for the kind invitation.

Another Company celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year.

And they have 620 members! 620! We are only 1/100th of their membership. Wow!

Our Junior Boys In JP Character Quest 2008

Our Junior Section participated in the Junior Programme Character Quest today. We sent 2 teams. Here is a picture of them, looking all serious.

More than 60 teams from 35 Companies took part in the JP Character Quest 2008 - with the theme "The Perfect Reign" - at St Andrew Junior School.

Our 2 teams took part in the 3 hours race and completed 8 Stations. They did very well, scoring very high marks. Unfortunately, they did not manage to slay Goliath in the last Station, so the 2 teams were not in the Top 10.

Never mind - we'll do better next year. Well done, Boys!

Total Defence Day Camp

We had our Total Defence Day Camp today.

Pte Samuel led the singalong - his first time - this morning. His first 3 songs were related to different aspects of Total Defence. Quite innovative. And he was quietly confident and spoke clearly too. Of course, he's from Squad Corinthians - and I was accompanying him on the guitar.

Here are other pictures that I took today.

Today's Church Lunch Duty

The officer cell did our duty selling lunch to the church members after the adult worship. Business was brisk, and within an hour, the lunch boxes were sold out. We had to disappoint some people too.

Wanted to take more pictures, but was so caught up taking in the money that I forgot, or rather, didn't have the time to. Anyway, here are some pictures of us in action preparing to start the business. Our own Boys were our first customers.

Our Gold Award Boys 2008

This morning, 3 of our Junior Boys - Amos, Nicholas and Roy - received their Gold Awards from Mr Gary Tsu, principal of Shuqun Primary School, during the school's National Day Parade. The presentation ceremony was held in the school's parade square, and 44 of the Junior Boys turned up in uniform for the parade.

Amos, Nicholas and Roy - we are all very proud of you! Congratulations! See you in the Senior Section next year!

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy Faithfulness is our new song to learn for August. Here's a little history of the hymn for us.

Thomas O. Chisholm (below) wrote this hymn in 1923. According to him, there were no special circumstances which caused its writing — just his experience and Bible truth.

The music was written by William M. Runyan (below) in 1923 too.

For some of us who do not understand archaic English (old English), here's a little translation from dictionary.reference.com for us:

Thy = Your
Thee = You
Thou = You
Hath = Have

I hope we'll have a good time learning this song together. Indeed, great is His faithfulness.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Refrain
